Brian Schmaltz
Managing Partner, Vintner Library Collection Wine
A San Diego native, Brian developed a deeper appreciation for wine after moving to Yountville. Time spent volunteering during harvest offered a hands-on introduction to winemaking—and gave him a chance to contribute the playlists for sorting and punch downs.
Brian is currently the Chief Operating Officer of NAMICS Technologies, Inc. in San Jose, where he works in the semiconductor materials industry. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from San Diego State University and a certificate in global commerce from UC San Diego.
At Library Collection, Brian enjoys taking part in the details of each release, from blending and cellar work to waxing and labeling bottles. The project brings together his appreciation for craftsmanship, art, music, and sharing wine with friends.
Robin Akhurst
Winemaker, Library Collection Wine
Originally from Scotland, Robin’s interest in wine began while working as a sommelier in Edinburgh. After gaining experience with an independent wine merchant in London, he moved to New Zealand to study viticulture and enology at Lincoln University.
His winemaking journey took him from Marlborough to Burgundy’s Domaine Leflaive and Australia’s Two Hands Winery before bringing him to Napa Valley in 2009. There, he worked with Thomas Rivers Brown at Outpost Wines and later with the teams at Envy Wines and Carter Cellars.
Today, Robin is Director of Winemaking at Adair Family Wines, working with a portfolio that includes Clos Pegase, Girard, Kunde, B.R. Cohn, and Viansa. He also makes wine for Paula Kornell Sparkling Wine and pursues his own projects, including Apsara Cellars and Library Collection Wine.
As winemaker for Library Collection, Robin brings his international experience and appreciation for distinctive vineyards to small-production wines made to be enjoyed and shared.
